Fellow Senators...

It is time to let you know the state of the United States JCI Senate.  When we started 2008-2009 in West Virginia last June, I shared with you my personal goals for our organization. I am here today to compare each goal to what has been accomplished and to re-iterate what is left to accomplish in the next 6 months.

GOAL #1- To dance with the ones that brought us into the Senate, the Jaycees. We are making great strides in improving our relationships with Jaycees across America. US President and Senator  Denice O'Neil has  been extremely helpful during 2008. Thank you for your dedication to the Jaycees and the Senate. I look forward to working with new Jaycee President John Weber as we move into 2009.

I met with Jaycee State Presidents from Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Kansas, Minnesota and North Carolina. I met with US National Vice President's while visiting in Maryland, Missouri and Pennsylvania and an incoming National Vice President in North Carolina. I was thrilled to help present Senatorships in 4 states and was a speaker at the Council Bluffs, Iowa Jaycees 75th Anniversary, spoke to the Pennsylvania Jaycees and the Board of Directors for the Missouri Jaycees.

US JCI Senators across America donated 10,000 hours to the Jaycees during the first reporting period this year. Thank you to Larry Bohn, RTF Chairman, for promoting the Return the Favor Program. Larry was seen in Pennsylvania presenting a RTF forum to Jaycees and Senators. We announced the US Jaycee Return the Favor Awards while we were in Seattle and the Jaycees were in San Diego. Congratulations to Senators Daryl McNabb, North Carolina; Tommy Thompson, Tennessee and Doug Kinser, Tennessee. These awards will be presented in March in Crystal River, Florida at the US Jaycees Annual Meeting.

The Pennsylvania Senate is bidding a future Fall Board meeting in the same city at the same time with the US Jaycees.

Thank you to Newton Standridge, Liaison Officer, for his countless hours of work with the US Jaycee Board and Staff. You will never know all he has done to help us meet this goal.

FUTURE PLANS FOR GOAL # 1- Meet with North Carolina Jaycees and assist with Senatorship presentation in January; Meet with Tennessee Jaycee State President and Jaycees in Gatlinburg in Feb/March; Attend US Jaycees Annual Meeting in March to assist with Return the Favor Award presentations; whatever else may come our way.

Continued promotion of the RTF Program with an emphasis on the impact of the mentoring given by the Senate.

Creating an Account Here

Hey folks. When you create an account on this website, PLEASE include both your first AND last names, and if you're a JCI Senator, add # and your Senate number. Those who register here with just a first name or nickname in the real name field will be prevented from logging in to this website.

Senate Business Directory is live!

The Business Directory for U.S. JCI Senators is now fully active and ready for you to enter information about your business. Making this directory available was one of President Pat's goals for our website, so Senators can know about how they can purchase products or services from other Senators.

Getting the directory ready has involved a great deal of work on our part, so please take advantage of it. It's free, after all. With a little effort, we were able to make the error with Internet Explorer go away.

Arcade Games

We've discovered, finally, how to add some games here. For the most part, they're in Flash, and this time you'll be able to see who has won the most points playing the games. It's going to take us awhile to provide a meaningful number of games, so please be patient.

Video Gallery

We're in the process of reconstituting the video gallery we had on our old site. We have several more to load and configure, but this time around, many of our users will be able to upload their own videos! If you're one of those users, you'll see Upload Video under the User menu when you're logged in.

JOIN THE U.S. JCI SENATE GROUP ON FACEBOOK

In late November, I decided to check out Facebook, a social networking site that has had a lot said about it, both pro and con. One of my growing number of friends on Facebook has described it as a grown-up version of MySpace, but I think this article explains it a whole lot better.

Anyway, I encourage you to set up a free profile on Facebook and then join the U.S. JCI Senate group there. For that matter, if you'll add me as a friend when you sign up, I'll send your name out to several Senators who already have Facebook accounts, and I'll invite you to join the group once you message me with your name and Senate number. (We took an informal poll and decided to limit membership in the group to JCI Senators.)

You may end up using Facebook to communicate more with your nieces and nephews that you do with other Senators, but at least we'll have more ways to discuss things with each other than we do now.
